Astrocartography is a type of location-based astrology which shows where on a map of the Earth the planets in your birthchart form an angle to your ascendant, descendant, zenith or nadir. Obviously this kind of astrology is relatively new as it is only recently with the advent of computers to calculate the number of angles, that it has been possible or practical to do this.

As most of you know, an astrologer will usually ask you not only for the time of your birth but the place of your birth as well. This determines your rising sign or ascendant and therefore the position of the houses in your chart. In Astrocartography your time of birth of course remains the same, but when we change your place of birth to a different location this of course gives you a different rising sign above the horizon and therefore different angles of your houses and can shift the planets within them into others. For example, someone born in one country could have Libra rising but if they relocated to another they could then have Pisces rising.

If we go back to Sue’s story which we began with, in Los Angeles Sue’s 5^th house which rules where our relationships begin, was under pressure which stopped her ‘Mr. Right’ from appearing. Other aspects of the Los Angeles chart were very supportive of her career however. But with a move of almost 900 miles, Sue’s chart radically shifted. Her rising sign changed and the pressure on her 5^th house was released as the planets causing it moved into other houses where they were more ‘comfortable’. The result: Sue was easily able to attract a partner when she moved to her new location.

What makes this event so special is that the ‘Venus Transit’ cycle only occurs every 105-120 years – when she ‘eclipses’ the Sun at the beginning and the end of the transit cycle. This ‘eclipse’ marks the end of the transit which began when Venus passed between the Earth and the Sun on June 8th 2004, initiating the eight-year cycle. We will not have another chance to observe Venus like this for over a century.

Venus transits of this nature alternate between the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius. We can therefore say that these two signs will be the most affected on a personal level and especially those Geminis and Sagittarians whose Suns are within an orb of 14-17 degrees. But how is this likely to affect us on a collective scale as this event is so rare? In the past, Venus Transits have coincided with dramatic leaps forward in communication (ruled by Gemini), exploration and education (Sagittarius). In 1631-1639 the Venus cycle in Sagittarius ushered in the Age of Reason – epitomised by Descartes statement ‘I think therefore I am’ which become the cornerstone of Western philosophy. If we think of the Sun as the masculine energy of our solar system and Venus as embodying the feminine, we can say with this transit the masculine is ‘embracing’ the feminine as she shines at her most glorious. This is an almost alchemical event. It is an opportunity to restore the feminine where it has been disempowered and at the very best we could see radical changes in attitudes towards sexual equality beginning to emerge in very rigid, masculine dominated systems and more collaboration and understanding between groups who have up to now been polarised. It’s another big week astrologically speaking. We start the week with a fabulous conjunction between the Sun and Jupiter, planet of luck and expansion which meet in sensual and earthly Taurus. For all of us this is going to mean dealing with the word abundance. What does it mean to you personally? Abundance isn’t necessarily about how much money you have although this aspect may bring many of us a boost in our bank balance. The theme of trines that has dominated this month continues with another Grand Earth Trine – this one involving Mercury in Taurus, Mars in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. Expect news and communications relating to finances to dominate both personal matters and in the news. Not all the news may be pleasant but ultimately could prove transformative.

The week ends with an Annular eclipse at 0 degrees of Gemini. An Annular eclipse is a total eclipse but the Moon is too far away for its shadow to reach the Earth’s surface. This eclipse will particularly impact those born in the first five days of Gemini, last five days of Taurus, first days of Sagittarius and last days of Scorpio or if a natal planet falls within these degrees. Watch out when signing contracts or for agreements to be rescinded or not happen. Bear in mind that if something or someone disappears around this eclipse – you are better off without it or them.

After last week’s Grand Earth trine the sky is still alight with beautiful aspects as we have two out-of-element Grand trines occurring this week. On the 8^th, Mercury planet of communication currently in action-oriented Aries, moves to trine Mars in Virgo and Pluto in Capricorn. On the same day we will see Venus, planet of love, beauty and creativity presently in Gemini trine Saturn in Libra and make another out-of-element trine with Neptune in ethereal Pisces.

Meanwhile, Mercury also makes a sextile to Venus and another one to Neptune while the Sun in Taurus moves into orb to conjunct Jupiter. When it does it will form a quincunx to both Saturn in Libra and the Moon in Sagittarius. This aspect is known as a Yod or ‘the finger of God’.

So, what does it all mean? Those of us who have become Warriors for Love could well see the universe offering us tangible rewards and signs we are on the right path as abundance flows and synchronicities abound. There’s a feeling of being in the right place at the right time. Your creativity blossoms in a way that enables you to build something for the future now – a relationship, home, project, or career. Venus in Gemini lends a magical light to all your communications now. Once more all of us are benefiting from Grand trines lighting up the skies. This week we have two out-of-element Grand trines – in other words only two planets in each trine share the same element. The other planet involved is in-orb but occupying a sign with a different element. For example – Venus is in your sign and Saturn is in your 5^th house in fellow air-sign Libra. The weekend of May 5-6 brings us a full Moon in Scorpio but this is no ordinary full Moon – it’s a SuperMoon. So, just what is a SuperMoon and how do they affect us astrologically?

A SuperMoon is when a new or full Moon occurs within 90% of its closest approach to the Earth in a given orbit. To put it simply – the Earth, Moon and Sun are all in a line with the Moon in its nearest approach to Earth. The Full Moon on May 6^th puts the Moon the closest it will be to Earth for 2012.

The term ‘SuperMoon’ was first coined by astrologer Richard Nolle back in 1979 when he was writing for Horoscope magazine. Since then it has become the accepted term even in astronomical circles for this type of Moon with even NASA using it!

But on a more mundane level, what do SuperMoons bring to our lives?

The first thing to bear in mind is that the Moon of course is responsible for the movement of the tides here on Earth. So, under the influence of a SuperMoon we can expect the sea and indeed, the Earth itself to be on the move. SuperMoons have therefore come to be associated with earthquakes, storms at sea and tide surges and there is in fact a great deal of seismic activity usually recorded within 3-5 days either side of a SuperMoon occurring.

The second thing to remember is that we and most living beings on the planet are made up mainly of water. So, the Moon is clearly ‘pushing and pulling’ us as it waxes and wanes just as it does the oceans. A SuperMoon will therefore amplify these effects for us.

In terms of exactly how the SuperMoon in Scorpio will impact us, we first need to go back to Astrology 101. In our birthcharts the Moon represents our emotional NEED. This weekend’s SuperMoon taking place in transformational Scorpio will therefore provide us all with an emotional need to transform an area of our lives. If you know which house of your birthchart your natal Moon occupies, this will give you a clue as to the area the transformation will occur.

If you don’t have your time of birth which you need to calculate the house in which your Moon will fall – don’t worry. You can look up the sign the Moon occupied on the day you were born by checking an on-line ephemeris. Once you know which sign it is in, by reading up on the characteristics of that sign, this will also give you some clues as to how the SuperMoon may impact your life as it may throw up people, situations or ‘themes’ associated with that sign to transform your life.

Of course, this is not the only SuperMoon we will have in 2012 but for those of us who see it, it could be the most spectacular. One thing is certain, we will all be offered a chance to transform something in a big way and that can even be our thoughts and mind-set, over the next week.

When people mention assets there is a tendency to think in purely material terms – money and possessions jump to mind. But our assets are usually far more than just material worth. Our assets are also our talents and abilities – our ‘gifts’ we are born with that have nothing to do with how wealthy our family may be. These too are ruled by the Second House. If you have planets in the Second House these not only indicate how you interact with the material world and the possessions you may amass, but they also point to the talents and gifts you may be born with.

The second house is traditionally associated with the sign of Taurus and is ruled by Venus. Yes, Venus may be traditionally associated with love and sensuality. But Venus also rules our bank account! Have a think back to times in your life where your career has suddenly taken off and soon afterwards you’ve embarked on a serious love affair – or vice versa. Now you see the connection! For this reason the Second House also has an influence on partners (although marriage and partnerships are actually ruled by the Seventh House). A major Second House transit can therefore bring in a serious relationship as well as financial and career success.

There’s a lot of confusion out there about planets in the Second House. For example, Saturn in the Second House was traditionally interpreted as having difficulty with attaining material possessions and success. Clearly, nobody told Steven Spielberg that as he has Saturn in the Second House.
