Aries

21st – new moon in 12th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retrograde in 7th.

22nd – mercury in 12th opposite mars retrograde in 6th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 12th sextile Jupiter in 2nd. 27th – sun in 12th sextile pluto in 10th.

It’s a hazy, mystical, magical week for you with so much going on in your 12th house. This is all about illusion, spiritual enlightenment and transcendent love or on the other side, it can tempt you into debauchery. It has the opportunity to be one thing or the other, or everything all at once. There are such extremes in the universe. You may find youself obsessing about someone and falling into a cloud like dream, or have a moment of instant enlightenment. The new Moon is saying, make a wish to evolve your soul and open up to the true purpose of your life. On the other side, if you don’t follow your spiritual calling, you may find yourself getting lost in alcohol, drugs or some extreme experience where you are trying to escape reality. Take time to tune into yourself. You should also have some very profound and intense exchanges with others. These could even border on the dream like and make you confused as it’s all a bit mysterious and fluffy. In a nutshell, you can be transcendent or debauched. As with anything in life, it’s all up to you.

Taurus

21st – new moon in 11th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 6th

22nd – mercury in 11th opposite mars retro in 5th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 11th sextile Jupiter in Taurus.

27th – sun in 11th sextile pluto in 9th.

There is so much going on. Something extraordinary should happen with your friendships this week. It could be that you meet a friend from overseas who has a profound impact on you or that you suddenly work out what’s going on with all your friendships and let some go.You could even be inspired to look at how you are as a friend. Have you got into some ruts or patterns? This theme of friendships also spills over into your romantic relationships, where you’ll be asking whether you are each others friends or maybe even wondering why you are more like friends than lovers. Look around you and see if there are those who need your friendship or a bit more of your attention. If you surrender to all of this examination, there will be a real gift in it for you. Also, as new Moons are all about us making a wish and this one falls in the area of your chart related to friendship, you can make a wish for the kind of friend that you want or want to be. I find when making an order to the universe, it’s always best to ask for the right thing for you, so ask the universe to send you the friend that is the right one for you in your soul’s journey.

Gemini

21st – new moon in 10th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 5th.

22nd – mercury in 10th opposite mars retro in 4th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 10th sextile Jupiter in 12th.

27th – sun in 10th sextile pluto in 8th.

There is a stunning opportunity for you this week with so much going on in your 10th house, which is the house of your career. As the new Moon falls in this house, you can make a wish for a new start in something career related. At the moment, with what is going on in the wider world there can be a slightly depressing vibe where people are maybe giving up on their dreams to hang on to what they’ve got. I believe that it’s important to hang on and nurture our dreams as what we think, we create. In other words, make your wish about what you truly want to create rather than making it from fear or a feeling of scarcity. Think about the joy you used to have in the past about work. What was it that make you laugh or filled you with passion? Ask the universe to bring you passion and joy. There is a cosmic energy around your career and your desires. You need something that gives you meaning, and what you put out there should come back your way this week. Make sure you feel you deserve any good thing that could happen to you. When it comes to love, it’s all about communication. You want continuity and you want to express some more serious ideas. If you haven’t been getting what you want in an existing relationship, part of you is going to want to explore whether it’s the right one for you. If you’re single, someone could turn up unexpectedly who could rock your world. Ultimately, you should be the centre of your universe. You are lovable, quick witted and brilliant and that’s what you want to be sending out into the universe. Make sure you love you and that you put out the right energy so that the universe can mirror it back to you.

Cancer

21st – new moon in 9th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 4th.

22nd – mercury in 9th opposite mars retro in 3rd.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 9th sextile Jupiter in 11th.

27th – sun in 9th sextile pluto in 7th.

This is quite a special week that kicks off with the new Moon in your 9th house that is conjuct Neptune. This is all about new beginnings. It’s also about a gift or a clue in the relation to the house it falls in and the 9th house is all about adventures, stretching yourself, looking at the world from a more philosophical angle and opening up to your adventurous spirit. Regarding your love life, the fact that you are being more adventurous, confident and out there should have a massive and very positive impact on your relationships across the board. It really is up to you to step into your power. These really are extraordinary times and this really is an incredible awakening of your spirit. It’s magical and full on. Listen to what your soul is saying and to the warrior of love that is waking up within you.

Leo

21st – new moon in 8th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 3rd.

22nd – mercury in 8th opposite mars retro in 2nd.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 8th sextile Jupiter in 10th.

27th – sun in 8th sextile pluto in 6th.

The new moon falls in your 8th house, and it’s conjunct powerful, life transforming, soul awakening Neptune. This might feel quite intense, especially with all of the other activity in your 8th house. It will make you want to go within and especially to explore your shadow. Anything that you’ve hidden about yourself or that you’ve sensed hidden in others is going to be revealed. New Moons mean new starts and you’re fearless about dealing with any blockages or what is revealed in others. And actually you’re in a good place to do it because it’s also all about being non judgemental. You can be a lot more understanding about yourself and other people’s troubles and woes. It’s all about sex and transformation, power and powerlessness. It would be well worth exploring what power means to you. You’ll also be very charismatic, as though on one level you’re turning into a bit of a Scorpio with tons of depth alongside that fabulous compelling persona of yours. Pay attention to your depths and dreams. Tune in to what’s going on for you and ask what’s going on for others. It’s magical, deep and intense.

Virgo

21st – new moon in 7th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 2nd.

22nd – mercury in 7th opposite mars retro in virgo.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 7th sextile Jupiter in 9th.

27th – sun in 7th sextile pluto in 5th.

What an incredibly important week it is with the new moon in your 7th house of relationships conjucting Neptune. This is a beginning and an initiation into that. You should be much luckier when it comes to love and you’ve got the potential to enter into a more spiritual way of being in your relationships. As you transform, your relationships will too. This is one of the great spiritual truths that we can harness in alchemy so that, rather than focusing on trying to change others who are only mirroring us anyway, we change ourselves and any relationship we are in has to change too. You may have a revelation about the way you are. Later on in the week, anything to do with travel should be very good for you. You might also feel a bit angry or come across a few people who are angry. You might feel that anger is unseemly, but anger in its right form and right place is okay, so don’t be frightened of your intense feelings if they do come up and don’t allow yourself to be cowed by the intensity of others. Stand in your truth and radiate compassion and you can transform anger into clarity and evolve whatever situation you find yourself in.

Libra

21st – new moon in 6th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in libra.

22nd – mercury in 6th opposite mars retro in 12th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 6th sextile Jupiter in 8th.

27th – sun in 6th sextile pluto in 4th.

Much of what happens this week is down to the new Moon in your sixth house conjuncting Neptune. New moons bring new beginnings, and I’ve been talking a lot about the major effects that Neptune is bringing. For you, it’s all happening in the house that relates to health and wellbeing. So you’ll be paying attention to your health and nutrition, but also paying attention to the details in your life and by changing those bringing about a big transformation. If your first response is, hang on, I’ve been a vegetarian for years and do yoga every day at 6am, so what could I possibly need to do to be healthier? Remember that it’s all about balance. Overdoing anything isn’t that good for you, and that means the crash or crazy diets or obsessive exercising too and that’s what you’ll also want to be careful of. Other than that, there could be a bit of magic, mystery, joy and some sort of sensual excitement that captivates you. Overall, however, this is the beginning of the awakening of your soul.

Scorpio

21st – new moon in 5th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 12th.

22nd – mercury in 5th opposite mars retro in 11th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 5th sextile Jupiter in 7th.

27th – sun in 5th sextile pluto in 3rd.

This week is incredibly important. I’ve been talking a lot about Neptune bringing us all an awakening, and for you it’s in your 5th house which is all about fun and pleasure. You should be feeling a lot lighter and much more open to fun. It’s a heavy burden being a Scorpio as no one quite realises the pain that comes with seeing the truth in every situation, as you can do. This week, you get to see that the truth also has a light side that you can overlook when you obsess over the shadow. You can see the joy in each situation and it all kicks off with the new Moon on the 21st. This is your initiation into seeing the world in a whole new way. The only other thing to be aware of is that as you change, you may become aware of friends who celebrate either when you’re down or when you’re up. That might sound strange, but when we begin to change we can sometimes see that others don’t like it even when we are changing for the better. If you suspect that there are those around you who seem to be happy when you’re unhappy, very gently steer yourself towards the ones who mirror their pleasure in your pleasure. This week, you’ll be showing others a huge difference in you as you awaken to your childlike, playful side. As with any other skill or quality, it might take you a while to fully integrate it into who you are, but this is the start of your life having a big sprinkling of happiness. It’s like new superpower is coming your way, one that allows you to see the joy in any situation.

Sagittarius

21st – new moon in 4th conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 11th.

22nd – mercury in 4th opposite mars retro in 10th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 4th sextile Jupiter in 6th.

27th – sun in 4th sextile pluto in 2nd.

I’ve been talking about the major effect of Neptune this year which is calling us all to awaken in what I feel is the major astrological event of the century. It’s conjunct the new Moon, which falls in your 4th house, which is all about your home, closeness to people, feeling love and settled with the people around you. The new Moon should give you a gift or plant a seed of new beginnings, especially around your home. If you want to cast a wish about transforming energy in your home this is the week to do it. Along with that, there could be a very positive change in relation to security. Sagittarians are wild, free spirits who find it difficult to settle down but funnily enough Neptune is awakening your soul to the fact that you want some kind of security and some kind of loving, gentle comfort. That’s not necessarily in a traditional way as you are an exotic creature, but you are opening up to the fact that you can commit to some things and this is a joyful experience for you. This week is the beginning of it all and you deserve it.

Capricorn

21st – new moon in 3rd conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 10th.

22nd – mercury in 3rd opposite mars retro in 9th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 3rd sextile Jupiter in 5th.

27th – sun in 3rd sextile pluto in Capricorn.

This is it – the awaking has begun. We’re all going through a massive shift and for you its all about communication. You can awaken your soul through your ability to communicate. This week brings a brand new cycle thanks to the new Moon whichis all about a new start or initiation into this process. Cast out a wish related to your ability to communicate. This is a magical and deep week that is bringing all of us a little unfurling of the soul. For you , it’s even stronger. You can go through a transformation but it’s sweet rather than intense.

Aquarius

21st – new moon in 2nd conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 9th.

22nd – mercury in 2nd opposite mars retro in 8th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in 2nd sextile Jupiter in 4th.

27th – sun in 2nd sextile pluto in 12th.

This week brings a magical incredible unfurling of your soul as the new Moon conjuncts Neptune in your second house. This is all about security and a lot of people think that it just talks about financial security, but I believe that along with that it’s all about security within yourself. It brings a deep grounding and commitment to who you are. You can feel safe in the world with your feet solidly on the ground which is big news for you. Usually your mind is in the future, but this is all about you being fully present as if you are grounded you can express all of your amazing ideas and should be feeling clear about it all rather than a bit fuzzy or out there. Along with that, it’s as if you realise that being grounded and secure in yourself is a spiritual experience for you. You spend a lot of your life running ahead of yourself. Now you can be the genius that you are and it’s almost as if you’re being given amazing food from the Gods so you can feel abundant with your ideas but grounded at the same time. Other than that, something from your past that made you want to run away could come up again, but you mustn’t run away from that. The new Moon means that you can be reborn and you can stand your ground and transform.

Pisces

21st – new moon in pisces conjunct Neptune, trine Saturn retro in 8th.

22nd – mercury in pisces opposite mars retro in 7th.

24th – sun conjunct chiron in pisces sextile Jupiter in 3rd.

27th – sun in pisces sextile pluto in 11th.

This is it – the whole world should be in fanfare for you this week. You might actually find it full on as the whole world is a bit you. It’s officially your very own new year and it brings you a gift. Make sure you ask the universe for a gift, a sign, or something fabulous. Now, if you’re in your shadow you’re being debauched or obsessive or trying to escape in some way. That could be your fear of really coming into your power. It’s up to you now. You have the fire of the universe within you and your soul is waking up to your creative ability. Communicate, tell the world who you are and who you want to be. If you recognise that fear is coming up, you should be able to recognise it and grow beyond it. These are important times for us all, but it’s also your time so have the courage to sieze your moment and grow.

Our psychic astrologer, Barbara Palliser, looks at what's happening in the week ahead.

21st – NEW MOON in Pisces conjunct Neptune trine Saturn in Libra

22nd – Mercury in Pisces opposite Mars retrograde in Virgo

New moons usher in new phases of life experience. It’s all about focusing the mind and heart toward what is wanted and opening to what happens next.

New moon in Pisces happens every year around this time, but never in our lifetime has Neptune, ruling planet of Pisces, been there too (Neptune was last in Pisces in the 1800’s!). Which means it’s going to be an interesting one… especially for Pisces of course, on an individual, very personal level; as it’s all about a new sense of identity and relationship with the self.

For Virgo it’s going to bring relationships, particularly romance, to the forefront; either a fresh start or a whole new beginning emotionally somehow.

Aries are more likely to have the best night’s sleep they’ve had in years! But also are set to find partnerships particularly emotionally supportive at this time, while Taurus feels the same about friendships and group participation… it’s a new sense of oneness and togetherness.

Gemini is looking positively at the long-term view, and is set for a whole new career experience somehow. Cancer is beginning to look at things in a whole new way, perhaps as a result of learning and education, or travel.

Leo has a new beginning coming as far as shared finances or joint interests go; and Scorpio is finding fresh inspiration and imagination to pour into creative projects and matters of the heart.

For Sagittarius there’s an emphasis on home and family life… new experiences are there somehow, even if it’s just a new way of viewing the past, while for Capricorn it’s all about new phases in communication, contacts and connections. Aquarius has a new focus on finance to enjoy.

But for all signs, the Pisces vibe means it’s all about going with the flow rather than fighting the current in certain areas of life. Neptune, the planet that is definitely a lover not a fighter, helps dissolve old blocks and obstacles to that flow by encouraging a compassionate, non-judgmental view, especially toward the self.

And this is immediately tested by a Mars/Mercury opposition on the 22nd, a planet combo that is about sharp words, opinions and views (especially toward the self). Resisting criticism will pay off though as it’s definitely open hearts and minds that are the ones to fare best under this kind of remarkable sweet, soft, but sound new moon vibe.

Michele Knight reader Lisa answers your karma questions for free.

Dear Lisa,

I am struggling with issues that seem to continue popping up in my life. As soon as I think I am on the right path, my world completely changes again. I know I am being guided, and I am very lucky…and grateful for all of the help the universe has given me. But I am just confused.

I am starting to wonder if I have a Karmic debt to get over….or something of that nature.

In relationships I tend to be a dreamer….this is what I am told. I have fallen in love once before and it was a complicated situation. I have just recently been in touch with a man who I had developed very strong feelings for. I do love him. We had been together before and just been in contact again…..but he seems to be uninterested. Which is a shock to me….. In my gut and heart, I have a strong sense that we are right for each other. And I cannot seem to accept the possible end to it. I just do not understand why, when I feel so strongly, it cannot work out easily. I keep wondering what it is I am doing wrong….and why I continue along this path, alone.

Lisa says:

I am so sorry that you feel alone and that relationships do not work out for you. This is where I find being able to look at your chart really helpful as it can throw some light on the kind of patterns that are likely to play out in terms of your relationships and life as a whole.

Looking at your chart, you have Lillith in Taurus at a critical degree. This does suggest that you want to find your power and leave a contribution in the world. In terms of your relationships, it can mean that as it seems as though as soon as you find your feet, the other person may think that there is no potential within the relationship.

Having Pluto retrograde means that subconsciously you will want to get rid of everything that stops you from self actualising. Ultimately, what you need in your life is being assessed by your subconscious and also mirrored back to you by your partner. It may seems as though everything you consciously want is taken away from you, but when this happens it is usually down to your subconscious intervening on your behalf in your best interests. In other words, anything that goes from your life wouldn’t serve your development as a human being. If you can shift your perception from thinking about what goes as being a loss to really embracing the idea that you are being saved for better things, you’ll create a major shift in your feelings.

Also, having the moon in Libra indicates that you may have a subconscious over compensation or need for getting your own way and therefore being in a relationship may compromise this – so it results in you pushing it away. It can also indicate that other people feel this and therefore push you away. This means that at times you feel that torn between being your authentic self and being supportive and accommodating. The way to transform this is to shake off the fear of what the repercussions may be and to be strong and tell people when you don’t feel comfortable with something. You are then being truthful to yourself and others and will attract what is important back to you. You also give yourself the best chance of evolving any relationship that you are in so that it mirrors the authentic you.

Having Juno in Sagittarius and squaring up to Venus means that you need to be on the same level intellectually as your partner and to know that you have the same goals and dreams for the future. This is paramount otherwise it is likely that there may be difficulties in communication or living together or in having a meaningful connection.

Give time to relationships, but understand that only a small part of being fulfilled is going to come from a partner. Rely on you and try not to project onto others what you think you need or do not need. We all have to tackle the myth of romantic relationships that has really taken hold. The myth of romantic love urges us to define ourselves and the value of our lives in terms of our attachments. The less you need from a partner, the more likely you are to relax and enjoy all of your relationships and attract someone who is right for you.

You say that you know that you are being guided. Your higher self knows what you need and you need to trust your intuition. Tap into this energy, it is there at your disposal always to help you with how you see things and act or react. Allow it to guide you when something isn’t working for you. Listen to what your higher self is trying to tell you.

Your healing will come from your connectedness with yourself and your contribution through connecting with spiritual matters. Give your best in this way and the universe will reward you with its own best. In time you will understand how to be attentive and mindful of the complex nature of your relationships.

Good luck on your journey of self discovery.

Michele Knight looks at what's going on for the week ahead for all signs.

As it’s Valentine week I’m going to focus on Venus, planet of love, which is squaring Pluto, Lord of Transformation. That’s going to play out slightly differently for each sign. The overall message is that we can transform our relationships. Love is the key to bringing about the changes we might want to see across the board in a week that might be intense, but that will bring gifts and treasures in its wake.

Aries

14th – mercury into 12th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in aries square pluto in 10th. 16th – mercury in 12th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 2nd.

18th sun in 11th trine Saturn retro in 7th.

19th sun into 12 conjunct Neptune.

Let’s talk about love. The good news is, we have Venus in your sign in Valentine’s week, which gives you loads of charisma and a fabulous glow. It’s also squaring Pluto in your tenth house of career. Pluto brings transformation and squares flag up the potential for a tussle, so be a bit cautious. However it’s not all bad as it could also mean that you bump into someone at work and fall madly in love with them which causes a confict of interests. There’s a lot of talk about relationships and relationship potential and you could get a stunning piece of advice about love. Most importantly, when it comes to the way that you communicate across the board, rather than being feisty, count to ten, open up your heart and communicate with love and that will work its own magic. Look at your assumptions too. Do you assume that people adore you, or that they don’t love you? If you find yourself having a negative thought pattern, you can transform it this week by being a font of love, kindness and patience.

Taurus

14th – mercury into 11th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 12th square pluto in 9th.

16th – mercury in 11th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in Taurus.

18th – sun in 10th trine Saturn retro in 6th.

19th – sun into 11th conjunct Neptune.

Venus is squaring Lord of transformation Pluto and it’s affecting all of us in different ways. You’re being urged to look into your heart and examine how you love, not just lovers but humanity and the world as a whole. If you are in a relationship, be especially kind to your single friends. Venus, planet of love, is in your 12th house and that brings a deep spiritual awareness and the longing for a soul connection, one where you can express yourself authentically. It’s squaring Pluto in the 9th house, so that means that you may be confronted on some level about your idealistic view about romance. When you fall in love, or if you are in love, do you compromise your growth or sense of adventure by seeing a relationship in some way? You’ve got the power to transform your love life this week by opening up to the higher calling of love rather than being seduced by delusion and obsession. Pluto refuses to be ignored, but if you open up and respond to whatever comes your way this week with love, you can bring about the most spectacular and deep transformation.

Gemini

14th – mercury into 10th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 11th square pluto in 8th.

16th – mercury in 10th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 12th.

18th – sun in 9th trine Saturn retro in 5th.

19th – sun into 10th conjunct Neptune.

The universe is saying to you, let’s look at love and friendship. For you, having a partner who’s also a friend is really important to you. You don’t want a superficial relationship, but Pluto is asking you to look at your desires. If you’re in a romantic relationship, have you become more like friends? What’s happened to your passion? When we repress our desires, they can leak out in all sorts of different ways. If you’ve been pushing your desires on to the back burner or they’ve just dwindled away, Pluto is saying, you do have passion in your soul, so connect with it. It could also mean that someone you thought was just a friend either wants more or becomes more to you, or you get the chance to indulge in a bit of passionate, sensual desire. In a nutshell, Venus wants you to be friends and Pluto wants you to transform your inner fantasies and desires. If you can find a balance between those two things, you’ve probably got the perfect relationship! Other than that, it’s a fabulous time to express your creativity in your career. You can also put your passion into your work and come up with something that not only expresses your considerable potential, but also pushes you forward.

Cancer

14th – mercury into 9th conjunct Neptune.

15th venus in 10th square pluto in 7th.

16th – mercury in 9th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 11th.

8th – sun in 8th trine Saturn retro in 4th.

19th – sun into 9th conjunct Neptune.

For you, planet of love Venus lands in your house of career and it’s squaring Pluto, Lord of Transformation, in your house of relationships. I would suggest that this week is all about looking for that balance between love and your career and there may need to be some kind of shift. It can also mean that your career is consuming far too much of your energy, like a demanding lover. Along with that, it suggests that you’re exuding loads of charisma at work and you feel that people adore you, or that a partner is working too hard or complaining that you are. Whatever it is, it’s time to put some constructive thought into finding that balance. Look within yourself and ask how much love you are expressing. Is your work coming in the way of your relationships and how can you express love to everyone – not just lovers, but everyone who loves you. Along with all of this, you’re feeling free, easy and philosophical and able to express yourself easily and that could be the key you are looking for to bring about the change you want.

Leo

14th – mercury into 8th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 9th square pluto in 6th.

16th – mercury in 8th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 10th.

18th – sun in 7th trine Saturn retro in 3rd.

19th- sun into 8th conjunct Neptune

Whatever is going on with you love wise this week, Venus is in your 9th house, so part of you wants to expand yourself in terms of relationships. You want a relationship where you get to talk about philosophical ideas, or travel, or somehow expand your horizons. At the same time, Pluto is squaring this in your 6th house, which can put the emphasis on criticism and perfection and even control. It also asks you to look at your physical health in your relationships. If you’re single, perhaps you need to be more adventurous, get out and look at people differently or go to different places. It could also mean that love arrives in an unusual package. If you’re already in a relationship, look at how much control and criticism is passing between you. Do you feel the need to be in control, or os the other person constantly sniping at you and trying to get you to change? Are either of you allowing perfectionism to pollute the love that there is between you? If so, Pluto will help you transform all of that in a week that is all about expansion.

Virgo

14th – mercury into 7th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 8th square pluto in 5th.

16th – mercury in 7th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 9th.

18th – sun in 6th trine Saturn retro in 2nd. 19th – sun into 7th conjunct Neptune.

You could have a very dramatic week. For you, Venus is in your 8th house and that’s all about obsession, desire and control – but avoid that one! Virgos are creatures of extreme. You can either totally hold back or lose yourself in wild abandon, so that’s something to be aware of. Venus is squaring Lord of Transformation Pluto in your 5th house, which is about joy, pleasure, good times and being playful. All in all, it means you could go to the extreme of being a bit of a mynx and surrendering to all of your shadowy desires and saying, I don’t care, I’m having fun. It could also mean that you’re falling just a little too hard into obsession. Pluto is here for a reason, however and for you it looks as though you might have to find that balance between having fun and being like a big kid and losing yourself in obsession or trying to control the whole show. That should take you on an enlightening journey.

Libra

14th – mercury into 6th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 7th square pluto in 4th.

16th – mercury in 6th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 8th.

18th – sun in 5th trine Saturn retro in libra.

19th – sun into 6th conjunct Neptune.

Venus, planet of love is in your house of relationships. That should mean that you’re feeling really loved up or very sure about your love life, that you’re on the right lines, in the right relationship or with the right person. However, it’s squaring Pluto, Lord of Transformation in your fourth house. That could mean that you’re running up against a family member who also wants your attention or who is creating a bit of friction. Pluto is assuring you that you can transform this situation, though it can be dramatic at the time. If you’re single, it’s an excellent time to meet someone and share a bit of passion. Even if nothing happens now, rest assured that there is an inner transformation going on as when you change your energy, that’s when things change on a deep level across the board.

Scorpio

14th – mercury into 5th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 6th square pluto in 3rd.

16th – mercury in 5th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 7th.

18th – sun in 4th trine Saturn retro in 12th.

19th – sun into 5th conjunct Neptune.

There’s a bit of chaos around the way that you communicate so it’s very important to look at how you communicate in your relationships. Pluto is saying, look at this and I’ll bring you a gift or a treasure. Either you’re being critical or a partner is being critical and that’s making you withdraw, but Pluto’s promise is that the situation can be transformed and renewed. If you’re single, you might want to take some time out to reflect and meditate on the way that you communicate with potential partners. You’re loving yourself enough, so if there aren’t any contenders on the horizon spend Valentine’s day doing your favourite things. Eat your favourite food, go to your favourite places, take yourself on a date. We’ve also got Sun in the fourth house trine Saturn retro in the 12th, and that means part of you wants to explore intimacy with your friends and family and you may have a really deep conversation or discover a soul connection between people close to you. Other than that, your repartee is sparkling and you’re able to put yourself across brilliantly and convey some of that deep scorpio spiritual wisdom to boot.

Sagittarius

14th – mercury into 4th conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 5th square pluto in 2nd.

16th – mercury in 4th conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 6th.

18th – sun in 3rd trine Saturn retro in 11th.

19th – sun into 4th conjunct Neptune.

For you, Venus is in the house of pleasure and enjoyment so you’re feeling playful and want to have a good time but it’s squaring Pluto in your second. Pluto is the Lord of Transformation, and this week you’re being asked to look at how you spend money in the pursuit of pleasure. Do you find yourself unable to stick to a budget when it comes to having fun? Or is having fun the reason why you’ve got no cash left at the end of the week? If so, try another way. You’ve got the sun in the 3rd and that means you’re communicating really well right now and it’s trining Saturn which is going retro in the 11th. That means you could bump into someone you haven’t seen for ages and have a stunning evening together. There’s a sprinkling of joy in your life and a spring in your step, but just don’t spend too much money and be a bit reckless, which you can be. You’re also feeling a very spiritual bond with the people closest to you. Single or taken, there’s a lot of fun, joy and pleasure to be had right now, but watch your spending as there could be something incredible coming up later down the line you wish you’d saved some pennies for.

Capricorn

14th – mercury into 3rd conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 4th square pluto in Capricorn.

16th – mercury in 3rd conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 5th.

18th – sun in 2nd trine Saturn retro in 10th. 19th – sun into 3rd conjunct Neptune.

Venus is in your house of family and commitment and Pluto in your sign is saying, right now you need to be reborn. It’s asking whether you’re compromising yourself for security or hinting that love is becoming too secure and not exciting enough. If you are at home, you’re going to love to cook and mingle withthe people closest to you who are also going to want to spend time with you. Overall, there could be some very dramatic shift around your home, comfort, security and the people closest to you that leads to a much needed transformation that leads you to your authentic self. You’re able to express your desires and dreams. Along with that, look out for someone or something connected to the past work wise – it could be that a job you went for ages ago comes up again, or a contact from back in the day gives you a helping hand. Whether you’re single or taken, there should be a lot of love and security around you this week.

Aquarius

14th – mercury into 2nd conjunct Neptune.

15th – venus in 3rd square pluto in 12th.

16th – mercury in 2nd conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 4th.

18th – sun in aquarius trine Saturn retro in 9th. 19th – sun into 2nd conjunct Neptune.

Venus is in the 3rd house, which means that you’re saying everything that you want to say. But don’t be too detached about whatever that is. You can find it a struggle to strike the balance between expressing your ideas and staying a free spirit and that can see you talking about things on a grand vision level when you’d be better off talking about what’s important to you. Other than that, you’re feeling very optimistic and sunny and preparing to lay some serious foundations. People will know that you mean what you say this week and you’re also able to come up with a few fabulous ideas.

Pisces

14th – mercury into pisces conjunct Neptune.

5th – venus in 2nd square pluto in 11th.

16th – mercury in pisces conjunct chiron sextile Jupiter in 3rd.

18th – sun in 12th trine Saturn retro in 8th.

19th – sun into pisces conjunct Neptune.

You’ll love this week as it’s Valentine’s week and as the most romantic of the signs you’ve got very strong views on love. For you, Venus is in the second house so you’ll be wanting to lay a few solid foundations and feel secure in love. Along with that, however, it’s square Pluto in your eleventh house which suggests a conflict between friendship and love. Are there friendships that are interfering in your relationships, holding you back in some way? Or do you need to mix with friends who are very different who will lead you into circles other than the ones you usually mix with where you might meet someone if you’re single? All will be revealed. Even better, we have Mercury in your sign, conjucting Chiron, the wounded healer. A great healing is coming upon you if you’ve ever felt people don’t take you seriously or listen when you speak. That’s also sextile Jupiter in the 3rd, so expect to feel much more confident about speaking out. I find that fascinating as with Neptune returning to his spiritual home, it’s as though the whole world is falling into your wavelength and loving you a lot more. You could feel very consumed with love and relationships. If you’re single, just keep it grounded but do cast out your wishes to the universe as it really is listening.

Our psychic astrologer, Barbara Palliser, takes a look at the week ahead.

14th – mercury into Pisces conjunct Neptune

15th – Venus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn

18th – sun in Aquarius trine Saturn retrograde in Libra

19th – sun into Pisces conjunct Neptune

It’s a dreamy, romantic vibe for Valentine’s, as mind and communication planet Mercury moves into the imaginative and emotionally sensitive sign of Pisces on the 14th, immediately meeting Neptune, the ruling planet of Pisces.

Like the sign Pisces it rules, Neptune is all about imagination and emotional sensitivity. Logical and wordy Mercury joining forces with Neptune like this is brilliant for amping up red rose romance and for whispering sweet nothings.

It’s also great for telepathic-like connections, synchronicity and amazing coincidences that feel personal, reassuring and comforting. No one else might get why a white feather has such meaning to you but the universe’s messages always deliver and hit the spot regardless.

However, it’s all much like the calm before the storm though, as on the 15th, Venus in Aries squares Pluto in Capricorn. Venus (relationships) squares (clashes with) Pluto (trust the process). It’s a challenging combo at the best of times, but Venus in Aries is a particularly bolshy Goddess whose motto is never surrender, so it can all get a bit rock and roll at times, with messy power struggles in relationships, and old irrational emotional issues that just don’t want to flush easily.

Happily, cool logic is lightening the emotional overload by the 18th, with structure and sanity combining in the form of Sun in Aquarius trine Saturn retrograde in Libra. This is all about support, whether from friends, family or the kindness of strangers, it’s all about co-creative partnerships, and resourceful relationships.

Next day on the 19th the Sun moves from Aquarius into Pisces for the next few weeks, and immediately meets Neptune, just as Mercury did at the beginning of the week. Sun in Pisces is all about creative imagination and visualisation, inspired artistic vision and uber-compassion, and Sun meeting Neptune is likely to amplify that vibe tenfold.

Sometimes Neptune clouds the Sun and fogs clarity, but this misty perspective just indicates missing the mark when it comes to self-belief… it’s self-doubt that makes things murky, so throw those curtains wide and welcome the Sun with confidence.

Aries

This Valentine’s Day, Venus planet of love and attraction is in YOUR sign, Aries giving Valentine’s Day that much more sparkle than usual. If you’re with someone then don’t be surprised if the celebrations are really focussed on YOU and allow yourself to let your partner take charge for once. There’s nothing wrong with being the object of worship once in a while. Single Aries may find themselves attracting a new love who has a lot to teach them about harmony. Maybe someone with planets in your opposite sign of Libra? Again, if you’re used to being the Warrior Princess (or Prince), its time to drop that sword, lower your defences and make love, not war.

Taurus

Valentine’s Day Venus casts a dreamy eye over your 12th house of past life connections, beauty, love, intuition and inspiration. Sensual Taureans who are coupled up may plan something unusual and romantic for their loved one or else find themselves the recipient of a sensual surprise – anything from chocolate dipped strawberries to chocolate body paint! Single Taurus never gives up on their dream of romantic love no matter what disappointments they experience and the good news about this Venus is that she may kick up a new lover who may take you on a walk on the wild side – one you may feel you have known before. Remember, sometimes it’s good to find something that makes your heart beat faster and true love can sometimes come in a naughty package!

Gemini

Got a back-up plan this Valentine’s Day, Gemini? You might need it. If you’re planning on taking your loved one out for an intimate candle-lit dinner make sure you have a fall-back plan in case that restaurant is over-booked or turns out to be less-than-intimate! Smart Gemini’s will make sure the fridge is stocked with champagne and treats just in case as Venus in your 11th House says two’s company and two hundred people a crowd. For single Gemini’s it’s a very different story. Get out and socialise and you could find that you may spot that intriguing stranger across a crowded room that turns out to be the next big thing. So be a social butterfly and spread those wings.

Cancer

Cancerians will most probably be riffling through their cookbooks to cook up something really special – you could be going to town on expensive ingredients to make your partner feel cherished or else making them their favourite. Single or attached – make sure work commitments don’t scupper your plans this Valentine’s Day. If you’ve been using work as an excuse to avoid intimacy now’s the time to take stock. Single Cancerians could end up attracting someone who could be termed ‘a good catch’. The question is whether or not you think you deserve them. That good looking fire sign on the other side of the bar winking at you won’t bite – at least not hard. Wink back. It’s okay to come out of your shell occasionally.

Leo

Give your partner the chance to shine this Valentine’s Day, dear Leo. Remember we all need our turn in the spotlight. You may find yourself being the recipient of a lot of attention or a gift that revolves around doing something you love. Yes, I know it’s only your due so be your regal self and show appropriate thanks by making your partner feel they are the centre of your world. If you’re the one who’s organised the Valentine’s Day plans then expect appreciation to be shown for a long time to come. Single Leos could attract someone wonderfully individual and free-spirited but then you have no problems with that! You could find them at a sporting event, travelling or they could even be from overseas. Watch out for anyone born under the sign of Sagittarius or with planets in Sag – but then sometimes the best playmate for a fire sign is another fire sign, correct?

Virgo

Oh Virgo. And to think it’s usually the Scorpios who are dusting off the fluffy handcuffs on Valentine’s Day. Don’t think I don’t see what you’re up to. Perhaps you’re planning to surprise your loved one with a gift of sexy underwear? Venus in your 8th house of sex and transformation this Valentine’s Day says it’s all about passion. Single Virgo – time to stop nit-picking about the details and think about messing things up a bit. The thing about chaos theory is that what appears to be chaos isn’t – it’s merely everything settling down into an ordered system. A place for everything and everything in its place is your catchphrase – that Scorpio you meet could occupy a very special place in your heart, so surrender – fluffy handcuffs are optional!

Libra

Valentine’s Day is just made for you – you’re in love with love – admit it! This Valentine’s Day Venus falls smack bang in your love and partnership sector. Just having their partner there will be more than enough for attached Librans – no matter whether you’re staying in or going out. It’s the two of you that counts. A Libran without a partner? A sad state of affairs as your sign is all about partnerships. Cheer up because Venus says that anyone who makes an appearance in your life now is going to be serious relationship material. If you’ve been with someone a while you may see a big commitment being made. If you are single pop down to the newsagent and buy that bridal magazine. It could turn out to be more than wishful thinking!

Scorpio

Why is it they always get things so wrong about you Scorpio? It’s not just about sex – it’s about sex with depth. You know you’re not made for anything superficial so how come everyone else thinks you are? A good sex life is like food and drink to you. You are willing to work on it and you know you need it for your relationship to stay healthy. Your Scorpio partner could surprise you this Valentine’s Day because they may want to really reach out and connect with you on that soul level that makes you feel loved. Sure your Valentine’s present is a book on sex- surprise, surprise; but it’s tantric sex. Single Scorpio – if you’ve been feeling run down or if work issues have been holding up your love life, Venus removes them now. And as for that Virgo – you could really rock their world.

Sagittarius

Your innate generosity means you may really go to town and spoil your partner this Valentine’s Day with no thought of what you get in return. Those archers in a relationship (yes, they CAN be tied down!), are likely to feel the same excitement they did in the early days of their relationship – and we all know how quickly Sag becomes bored. Keeping things fresh is what turns you on and Venus makes everything look brand new this Valentine’s Day – whether you’ve been together two years or 20. Single Sagittarians – hold your horses! Are you so busy looking at the horizon you’re missing what’s right under your nose? Just because they’re part of the scenery doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate your free spirit – or aren’t one themselves. Expect any new relationship to have a satisfying sizzle and a large lingerie bill.

Capricorn

If you’re home celebrating Valentine’s Day with your honey you’ll have gone to a lot of trouble to make things beautiful. Who says you’re always the practical one? This Valentine’s Day may see you expressing what’s in your soul. After all – your partner appreciates that you’re in it for the long haul and that true romance has a slow burn. Down with practicality and hello wine and roses. Single Capricorns could well attract a new partner that will transform not only their lives but where and how they are living. This person may even live in your neighbourhood or you may find they have tied to somewhere you’ve lived in the past. Home and family will be things they value. This may not be the fastest relationship off the starting blocks but it has the ability to go the distance. Start planning how you’d like to be living, where and with whom. Venus says if you build it, they will come.

Aquarius

Aquarius – stop talking and listen up! This Valentine’s Day is going to be all about communication. Yes, there’s always plenty to talk about with you and your diverse mind and interests. It’s something your partner appreciates about you. But there are other ways of communicating than speaking. Why not try a few for an unusual and romantic evening? Put a ban on speaking and only touching allowed and see how much you can say without words. No-one can express themselves like you. Single water bearers may be captivated by someone who can literally woo them with words. This could even be someone who uses words or communication to earn a living. Expect to talk up a storm with any new romantic interest. The fact they have a quirky side only intrigues you more!

Pisces

Show off. Yes, I know that’s how we usually refer to Leo’s. You’re out to impress this Valentine’s Day and this may mean pushing the boat out when it comes to pleasing your partner. You may show what you can do in more ways than one. You’re taking centre stage, calling the show and loving it. It’s all about status in some way and this may mean showing off and taking your loved one somewhere prestigious or spending big or else being the recipient of all that. Single Pisces could well attract someone well-off who will put them on a pedestal and want to spoil. They may have an appreciation of the finer things of life and that includes YOU. It’s not what you’re used to is it? Think like a Leo and tell yourself it’s just your due.

Our astrologer Helen talks about how relationship astrology can tell us why and when we love who we love.

The most popular reason for a client to consult an astrologer is of course about their love lives. Often they want a 12 month prediction or a solar return (a reading which is done for their birthday and shows the position of planets in their chart for the next year), but the question they are most often looking to answer is whether their up-coming transits point to a new romantic interest entering their lives.

Astrologers have traditionally looked at activity in the 5th and 7th houses and at transits involving either the planet Venus (which rules love and romance), and Jupiter (luck and expansion). The 5th house in a chart rules sexual attraction and is where relationships begin, the 7th house rules marriage and all long term partnerships – not just romantic partners, but also business partners and long term friendships as they are all ruled by the partnership (7th house) sector of our charts.

Another reason astrologers are often consulted is when a client has found a partner and we are often asked to produce what is called a synastry or relationship chart from the birthdata of both parties. This can be an incredibly useful tool as it allows us to look at both the strengths (where you have planets that ‘click’ together!) but also flag up potential ‘clunks’ – areas that could turn out to be issues. It certainly leads to a better understanding of your partner and what makes them tick! Sometimes it can reveal reasons for the attraction to the other person that we were unaware of – but nonetheless make perfect sense! It can also be incredibly helpful to do this in a situation where the relationship has not worked out. One of the reasons I love astrology is because it can help people become more empowered when it comes to their relationships. Understanding why a person behaved the way they did is often a big part of the healing process and astrology can be an extremely useful tool when it comes to doing this.

Today’s relationship astrologers however are usually looking at more than just Venus and Jupiter aspects. We now understand that other planets in the chart have their own part to play when it comes to attracting love into our lives. Neptune for example has to do with true love and long term relationships as well as sensuality – so this planet has a big part to play when it comes to longevity of a relationship and as Neptune also rules morals, ethics and sensitivity it can also indicate whether or not your partner is on the same wavelength as you. Chiron rules our emotional ties and marriages and weddings – so aspects to both of these planets need to be considered in the final mix.

While it’s always useful for an astrologer to have the birth times of both parties when producing a synastry or relationship reading, if you don’t have this information a gifted intuitive astrologer will be able to analyse the aspects in both charts just from the birthdates alone, just as they can give a client an overview of the year ahead and whether or not love is on the horizon without the time and place of birth. So just because you may not have this information to hand, don’t let that put you off consulting an astrologer.

Relationship astrology can be a life-empowering tool that enables us to come to a better understanding of ourselves, our needs and the people we love.

Helen ID 2173 is a talented psychic tarot reader as well as being a fabulous astrologer to boot. If you’d like an astrological consultation or psychic reading, with Helen, check our live panel or call reception on 0207 111 6090 to see when she’s available.

“I have just had a reading with Helen. Wow! She was bang on the money with everything I wanted to know without being asked, no hint of hesitation or generalisation. She is also a lovely person and has left me feeling positive and energised about the future. I cannot recommend her highly enough.” Nina

Saturn – Friend not Foe!

Delving into the depths of Saturn reveals a planet that truly is a friend and not the foe he can sometimes appear to be.

If you’ve ever looked at the night sky through a telescope you’ll know there is no more beautiful planet in our solar system than Saturn. With its amazing ring system, 62 moons and marbled surface, Saturn really does look like something created by a Hollywood special effects team! So, despite how beautiful Saturn is to look at how come astrologers and their clients alike, tend to view Saturn’s transit through their charts with dread? Ask most astrologers about Saturn’s influence and chances are they will use words like ‘obstacles’, ‘limitations’, ‘losses’, ‘restriction’, ‘roadblocks’ and ‘endings’.

However, many astrologers today including myself are re-framing Saturn’s messages and throwing out the old image of Saturn as a scythe-wielding party pooper, and looking at the lessons he offers us in the context of allowing us to actually grow into the people we are meant to be.

Saturn takes approximately 29 and a half years to complete one orbit around the Sun. This means he will spend two and a half years in each sign as he does this. I am sure you have all heard the term ‘Saturn return’. This is when Saturn returns to the same point in the sky that he occupied the day we were born. Depending on the degree, Saturn may arrive at this point at any time between the ages of 27 and 29 – hence giving rise in part to the infamous ‘Club 27’ – celebrities including Heath Ledger and Amy Winehouse who died at the commencement of their Saturn return. With this kind of publicity no wonder Saturn attracts such bad press!

Our second Saturn return takes place when we are aged between 56-58 and obviously if we live that long, we would see a third Saturn return occurring around 86 years of age.

So what then is the truth about Saturn? Should we be filled with dread or should we regard him instead as a guardian angel – a wise teacher whose job it is to liberate us from our past, give our lives definition and help us to achieve our soul purpose? I firmly believe it is the latter.

Saturn is the Lord of Karma and as such it is he who rules the purpose behind our lives. I like to think of Saturn as the tough old teacher many of us encountered in school – the one who pushes us simply because they can see the potential in us we often cannot see in ourselves. The teacher who may be short on praise at the time, but who is first to say ‘See – I knew you had it in you!’ the moment we pass that exam with flying colours.

In life, Saturn tests us. When we encounter obstacles it may be because we have wandered from our true path or are acting in a way that is neither helpful to ourselves or others. Saturn can test our resolve to make sure we are serious and also flag us when we are making mistakes. Saturn is an ‘old school’ gentleman. He will place plenty of warnings in front of us when we are going wrong. It is only if we repeatedly ignore them that we fall foul of him.

Saturn also rewards. If we have learned our lessons well expect Saturn to deliver a pat on the back that can exceed our wildest expectations. However, Saturn is all about hard work and going the distance – expect to put in many years work under Saturn’s tutelage before you reap his rewards. A prime example of this is Dame Helen Mirren who in 2007 won a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen as well as an Emmy for her role as Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect: The Final Act – all in the same year. At the time Saturn had just finished transiting her natal Sun – a perfect example of how Saturn can reward years of hard work.

Our first Saturn return may see us making some kind of big commitment – a marriage, a big promotion, buying a first home, becoming a parent. Conversely, if we have chosen incorrectly, we may see Saturn step in at this point to put an end to the situation to give us the opportunity to begin anew. Today as we all remain more youthful, our second Saturn return is seen as a chance to begin a new phase of life – I’ve known people start new (and very successful) businesses, take early retirement, move countries, return to full-time education to finally get that university degree or even re-marry under this influence – Saturn says its never too late.

Saturn transits and our Saturn returns are not to be feared but to be seen as opportunities for growth and to build something meaningful for our future. If you would like to know more about what Saturn is up to right now in your chart then a session with one of astrologers can show you Saturn really isn’t the old devil you thought he was – and sometimes we really can have been entertaining angels unawares!

Karmic Astrology – How Birthcharts can reveal our past-life connections

What is a karmic astrology chart, and what can it tell us?

Many people think astrology is just about sun-sign forecasts and telling you what might be coming up for you in the future. But astrology can tell us about the past as well – and by that I don’t just mean what happened to you when you were six but before that – astrology can reveal our past life connections to people and help us understand our relationship with them in this one.

Karmic astrology looks at key points in your birthchart – the ascendant, 12th house, midheaven, the Imum Coeli or IC, the descendant and also the nodes; and compares the other person’s chart against these. If there are significant aspects between them then we can say that these are good indicators that you have encountered each other before! There are of course other considerations to be taken into account but these are the main aspects a good karmic astrologer will be looking for.

For example, if we look at the 12th house in a chart – this house rules what is unseen but nonetheless exists. So if we meet someone whose own natal planets fall into this area of our charts – or any of ours fall into theirs, this is a major ‘clue’ and usually in a chart we will find others to back this up. The planets involved can also provide us with information as to what exactly your relationship was!

Similarly, countries also have their own ‘birthcharts’ as do places. So when you travel somewhere new but it feels familiar, again this may be a clue that you have lived there before in a past life that comparing the country’s chart with your own or an astrologer performing something called an Astrocartography can reveal.

So when it comes to dealing with our relationships in this life time, how can karmic astrology help us?

Understanding these soul connections we have with the people in this lifetime can help us see the reason behind them even when they may not be working out the way we would like them to. I believe that all our relationships happen to further our soul growth even if the purpose behind them may not be obvious at the time. When a love affair ends badly it’s difficult to see the opportunity behind the hurt and disappointment. Or to believe that the person with whom we felt such a deep soul connection, could behave in a way that would hurt us. But it is often the souls to which we have these connections that come into our lives to teach us the toughest lessons of all. When we reveal these connections through astrology, it allows us to accept the lesson and appreciate how these incredible ‘soul contracts’ further our growth.

Of course, this raises questions such as destiny and free-will. If an astrological analysis reveals a past-life connection to someone does this mean the relationship was ‘destined’ to happen? I believe that while certain souls have contracts with us through many life-times, they can change that contract with us at any time. Just as we can choose how we react to them. After all, we have the choice whether to get involved with them or not and the choice of how we react to any situation – this is where free will comes in.

A gifted karmic astrologer can re-frame your experiences with a soul connection in this lifetime, allowing you to see the purpose behind your relationship and helping you move towards a better understanding of your relationships soul purpose. What’s more, you don’t necessarily need the times of birth for either party – although if you do this can help reveal hidden depths in your connection.

Who we were and who we were with in a past life is a big part of unearthing the potential of who we can be in this lifetime. It’s just one facet of the unique and wonderful jewel that is YOU.

What does your rising sign mean - and what influence does it have in your astrological chart?

How many times have you heard people say: ‘I’m not your typical Leo/Pisces/Virgo’? Or maybe you have said the same thing about yourself! Perhaps although you can see you have strong characteristics associated with your Sun sign, sometimes you can’t help but notice you have personality traits that just seem the complete opposite? How come you love to stay in and do girlie things when you’re supposed to be a sporty Sagittarian? Sure, you’re a detail-oriented Virgo who takes pride in her work but your home and workspace is a disorganised mess! Why is it your sensitive Cancerian colleague gets so impatient and angry sometimes? What’s going on?

Chances are when people don’t behave in the way we’d expect them to according to their Sun sign, they are expressing their rising sign or ascendant.

Your rising sign is the sign that is above the horizon at the time you were born. The Earth takes 24 to rotate on its axis and there are 12 signs of the zodiac. Therefore, the sign on the horizon changes every two hours. This is why astrologers want to know the time you were born when casting your birth chart. Your rising sign or ascendant determines the first house of your chart – the house that is essentially ‘you’ and represents the face you show to the world and how the world sees you. It is the key to understanding how others see you and how you relate to the world, and the first piece of the magical and unique puzzle that makes up YOU.

Our rising sign can reveal our soul path or purpose. It is the perfect ‘twin’, the partner to our Sun sign and when understood and utilised can make us so much more powerful and complete as individuals.

So, if we were to take the examples above – the Sagittarian who prefers staying in and doing ‘girlie’ things may well have a Venus ruled sign – Libra or Taurus, as her ascendant, Venus of course ruling beauty, love, adornment and sensuality. No way does she want to go out and indulge in rough and tumble activities that mess up her hair! While our Virgo, while having a keen eye for minute details that others miss but lives in domestic chaos, may be hiding a Sagittarius rising sign – Sagittarius says there are always much more interesting things to do other than housework! Your sensitive Cancerian could well have fiery Aries rising which would make her flare up with uncharacteristic impatience and anger if she feels hurt or under pressure.

Of course, it is possible for you to have the same rising sign as your Sun sign. You could well be say a Capricorn with Capricorn rising. If this is the case we astrologers would describe you as a ‘Double Capricorn’ and you would see your Sun sign traits magnified. So, if someone describes themselves as ‘very Scorpio’ it may be because they also have Scorpio rising.

If you know your time and place of birth you can of course generate your own birthchart on-line which will give you your rising sign. When you view my weekly and monthly astrology videos you will discover that if you watch the videos for both your Sun sign and your Rising sign this will open up a whole new dimension of understanding when it comes to seeing what is going on in your life right now. Try it and see!

A major planet transiting our rising sign and first house can often bring in huge changes in who we are and how the world sees us. So, to understand how our rising sign really does influence our soul purpose, nothing beats a one-to-one session with one of our gifted astrologers who can explain more fully what your rising sign says about you. You are more than you ever dreamed possible and your rising sign is the key to unlocking your potential.
