How Does Astrology Work?

23/07/2009

I'm reading a fabulous astrology book, Family Sun Signs by Adam Fronteras, and he kicks off the discussion by asking the question "How does astrology work?"

I love his observations as they made me revisit my own beliefs about how astrology works.

Many of us who see the tremendous value in astrology just "get it" without too much overanalyzing.   Astrology followers are typically quite intuitive, and grasp the "big picture" of astrology; easily understanding how it functions in the scope of human life.

I've taken some time to ruminate on how astrology works, and thanks to Mr. Fronteras, I've been given the opportunity to reexamine my stance.  This article represents my own take on how astrology works.

Connectivity Theory:

This is what I call my personal view on how astrology works.  Connectivity Theory  is the concept of our connection to the celestial realms.  Let's suppose the existence of everything was rendered from a unique contact between two pulsing energies in dark space millions of years ago.  Something like a Big Bang, but far more elegant.  A simple kiss in the cosmos from whence all life emerged.

If we presume all life was initiated in the domain of the galaxy, we can make the assumption (as many people do) we are made from the stuff of the galaxy.  In short, our spirits and bodies are made from the stuff of stars.

I'm saying astrology works because humans, animals, plants -all life- is made of the same stuff of space.  Life is a residue of deep space activity.  We are hereditary carriers of all the stars, planets, black holes, etc.

This concept is not dissimilar to human offspring.  If you have a child, that child carries traits of the mother, the father, grandparents, great grandparents and on and on and on.

Connectivity Theory holds water in the same way.  If we are born from the cosmos, then we are genetically galactic.  We are carriers of cosmic DNA.  We are the same energy as the planets and stars.

This theory easily answers the question "How does astrology work" because we can point back to our lineage for answers.
An adult child, in retrospect, can pick out certain skills or traits he/she inherited from his/her human parents.  We can do the same thing on a macrocosmic scale.

We can look into the celestial heavens and pick out proclivities, behavioral patterns, talents and predispositions we've inherited from our cosmic connections.

This theory explains why, when the heavenly bodies move, we are so effected.  We share common bonds, we are going to feel the influence.  For example, when a planet goes retrograde, we feel the lag because we are composed of the same energy and matter as the planet.  The connection is undeniable, and so the effects cannot be denied either.

Science is discovering there is a lot more information lurking in the small bits of carbon and hydrogen constructing our universe.  I propose, within these insanely simple compounds, our heritage is held.

In short, we feel affinity and the influences of space because we were, in a sense, born from space.  And that, is my personal view on how astrology works.

Don't take my word for it.  Do your own research.  Dive into your own study of astrology (you can start with Adam Fronteras' book on Family Sun Signs, it's a great primer) and come up with your own theories to answer the question "How does astrology work?"
